EG3 PARIS FILM FESTIVAL : SABINE MARCHAL – JAMES, HIGHLY ENGAGED IN DIVERSE FIELDS OF THE FILM INDUSTRY, IDENTIFIED AS ONE OF THE IMPACTFUL PLAYERS OF ITS ADVISORY BOARD, WHOSE AMBITIONS & ACHIEVEMENTS ARE RESHAPING THE WORLD OF FILM FESTIVALS.
Sabine Marchal-James bathes extensively in the multi-cultural environment of European arts due to her families involvement on the European scene. She is highly engaged in diverse fields of the Film Industry both sides of the Atlantic.
Concurrently to the completion of a degree in economics and politics in Paris, she obtains her doctoral degree in literature at the Sorbonne.
She is graduate in oriental languages (Chinese).
Teaching French Literature at LyceeFrançais in Abidjan, SMJ is introduced to then President Felix Houphouet-Boigny. At Jacques Chirac’s initiative, she thus contributes to developing the cooperation of French language capitals of the world within what is known as » la Francophonie. »
Returning to France, President of Argos Films, Anatole Dauman, one of the greatest visionary producers in European film history (NIGHT AND FOG, HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR, LA JETEE, THE REALM OF SENSES, THE TIN DRUM, PARIS TEXAS, WINGS OF DESIRE, LEVEL FIVE), has found in SMJ a vital contributor to his cause.
She will speak in the stead of Anatole Dauman at round-tables and conferences regarding the perspectives of the European audiovisual scene.
She reflects upon the realities of national cinema with respect to mainstream Hollywood, SMJ’s vision of the industry becomes wider to include that there must be reconcilation between the frame and it’s content. Producers must learn to rise above the concept of cultural exception so that the obvious, and mutual, artistic attraction between America and Europe can find a new expression.
She organizes various colloquiums between Jack Valenti (CEO MPAA) and key members of French industry to reinforce cross atlantic ties for the protection of filmed property and the development of a platform on digital piracy. Nearly fifteen year’s close friendship with Jack Valenti enable SMJ to play a key role in working closely with the United States.
As well, she will collaborate closely with Marcel Julian, (President of France Television), at the development of various projects for TV.
She is presently Managing Director of a production company’s in Los Angeles.
She is member of various advisory boards.
